A&B's Proposed North Kihei Project - 600 Units plus Commercial
A&B has already received a State Land Use Commission Boundary Amendment from 'Agriculture' to a 'Urban' land use. A&B is now (December-2013) seeking to get a change in the Kihei-Makena Community Plan and a change in zoning from agriculture to apartment, single family and commercial.
The following are some of the issues that will have to be resolved:
-- Uncertainty concerning the water source which has yet to be identified;
-- Location immediately adjacent to a large GMO agricultural operation with dust + herbicides;
-- Traffic analysis that ignored significant potential ADDITIONAL traffic from many South Maui projects:
Makena Resort, Wailea Resort, Wailea 670 (Honua'ula), Maui R&T Park, etc.;
-- Traffic impacts on the adjoining Hale Piilani sub-division;
-- A&B's many existing, but un-built, housing entitlements: Hailiimaile, Kahului Town Center, Waiale, etc.;
-- The need to evaluate this proposed project as part of a comprehensive review
of the Kihei-Makena Community Plan area, expected in the next few years.
